Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) has been developing its international collaboration since the establishment of the school in 1966. From its initiative cooperation with Russia and Eastern European countries, HUMG now has partners from America, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Capacity building and knowledge transfer are priorities of HUMG, therefore, HUMG sends annually academic staff and students abroad in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, either in long-term or in short-term. HUMG is also an attractive institution for guest lecturers and exchange students from China, France, Germany, Japan, Thailand, and the USA in fields of mining, processing and tunneling, geology and geosciences, petroleum engineering and geology, economics and business administration, informatics, civil engineering and environment engineering. The first advanced training program of HUMG is Chemical Engineering, majoring in Oil Refining and Petro-chemistry, in partnership with University of California at Davis (USA), which was started in the academic year 2010 - 2011.

     HUMG is prestigious in organizing international conferences and ranks the 8th in public schools of Viet Nam in international publications (2018). International conferences such as GIS – IDEA (geomatics and applied information technology), ICAMT (advances in mining and tunneling), EMMA (economic management in the mineral activities) are successful events that attract many international scholars and industries to exchange know-how and experiences. The success of the publications are outcomes of many joint research projects, funded by governments and industries from China, Denmark, Germany, Korea, Japan, Poland, Russia and Viet Nam.

   In recent years, HUMG is a partner of Erasmus+ program in cooperation with universities in Austria, Germany, Italia, Litva, Poland, and Russia.
