Handover ceremony, Rosneft’s donation of laboratory equipment to support HUMG student research

On 10th June 2016, Mr. Mervyn Goddings, Country President & General Director of Rosneft Vietnam represented Rosneft to handover the equipment to donate to the Petroleum Faculty of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) and Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) equipment valued $50,000 is necessary for petrochemical laboratory at HUMG, helping to improve and speed of analyzing oil samples and a wide range of researches such as of the origin of oil, material science, chemical reaction mechanism, etc.

This is the third time Rosneft awarded funding to support HUMG students to conduct research in their fields. The equipment donated to the petroleum and petrochemical laboratory is the most widely used analytical techniques and applications which can further help students to improve their research methodology and techniques.

In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Mervyn Goddings was looking forward to contribute to improve the laboratories and experimental instruments and facilities at HUMG through donation programs which will help HUMG's students to access the latest equipment in the field of oil and gas.

On behalf of the HUMG, Assoc. Prof., Dr Le Hai An - Rector expressed his sincere gratitude for the contribution from Rosneft Vietnam to HUMG so far and committed to use and exploit effectively this equipment to enhance the quality of students’ researches.

Attending the ceremony, Mr. Trinh Viet Thang - Deputy Director of Petroleum Contract Management of PetroVietnam appreciated the strong support of Rosneft to HUMG and confirmed that the contribution from Rosneft is not only benefit to HUMG, but also benefit to graduate employers of HUMG such as PetroVietnam and its subordinate companies and enterprises.

     A brief presentation from Mr. Ngo Cong Tuan Anh - Chair of SPE Student Chapter of HUMG summarized study plan of students of Oil and Gas Faculty in the academic year 2016-2016 including using of equipment donated by Rosneft.

Rosneft Vietnam is a 100% Russian invested business in hydrocarbon exploration and production offshore Vietnam. Rosneft is working to ensure it is not only a reliable business partner, but also a responsible corporate in Vietnam. Besides this project, Rosneft also provides funds to support surgeries for children with congenital heart defects; vocational training for welders and electricians; clean water and safety helmets for primary pupils; and various charity activities in HCM City and Ba Ria Vung Tau Province.

After the ceremony, The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) and Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR) equipment funded by Rosneft were exploited by HUMG's students and staff with the witness of representatives of Rosneft Vietnam and PetroVietnam.
